My Thanksgiving

My Thanksgiving break was very short. I left for break on Wednesday morning after my 9 am class. My Ethnic Studies teacher canceled the 10 am class and then we didn't have class in English all that week so I got to leave early Wednesday. I got home around 10 and then sat around then got ready for my interview at Maurice's at 1. That didn't go so well, I hesitated on a lot of answers and blanked out and forgot what punctual meant...yeah, that probably lost me the job right there. Then that night I had to work at 4, got done pretty early then hung out with my family. Thanksgiving day we went to church early that morning, then went home and started making some food. For lunch we went over to my great-aunts house for my Mom's side Thanksgiving from 12-2 and then went back home to change. When we got home we made some more food for my aunts for my dad's side Thanksgiving in Hutchinson. I love sitting around eating REAL food (not food from the cafeteria) and talking to my relatives. I remember when I was younger, the last thing I wanted to do was sit around talking to my relatives, the older people. Now I love sitting around the fire just engaging in conversation with my aunts and uncles and my grandparents. I love being around my family so much, we're all really close. On Friday night I had to work at 4:30 and didn't get out until around 10:30, then I just watched a movie with my mom. Saturday morning, my family and I had to leave our house at 6 in the morning to go to the cities for my brother's All-Conference bowling match. My brother made All-Conference in high school bowling as an 8th grader! I thought that was pretty cool. So we went to the bowling match and they didn't do too well, there was an All-Conference team for our district. Then that night us and another family went to BeniHanas, a Japanese Steakhouse in Minneapolis. It was amazing! Then Sunday I worked in the morning and that's about all I did. It was a good break, just super short!

Finals

I can't believe the end of the semester is only 2 1/2 weeks away!! Two of my hardest classes (Ethnic Studies and Mass Communications) end next week. I have my Mass Communications final next week Thursday, and my Ethnic Studies final next week Friday. Next week will be pretty stressful for me, not to mention a lot of studying to do, welcome to college I guess. I'm not worried about my other 3 classes. For my Acting class we're just playing a game with some of our monologue choices. For my First Year Experience class we're just taking a survey about the class and what we didn't and did like about the class. Then for English we're just watching a movie and getting papers handed back. I'm really worried about getting my rough draft done by Thursday, a lot of my information is coming from my mom's friend and she hasn't given any information to my mom yet. There are a lot of things I've been getting off of the internet, but it's not much. I have a monologue to give in my Acting class tomorrow. I'm doing a monologe from the Princess Diaries, the scene at the end where she's accepting the role as Princess of Genovia. So far I'm doing really well in that class. I got 100/100 for my first monologue, I'm not quite sure how my scene partner and I did on our scene, but she didn't critique us at all or tell us to do anything different so I think we did pretty well. All in all, I think this will be a pretty successful semester...well, hopefully.

What my life would be like without computers & television

My life without computers or television would be really boring. I rely on both the television and the computer for a lot of my entertainment.

It's sad how a lot of my friends connect just only on Facebook or myspace on the Internet. It's amazing how friendship comes down to "you didn't post back on my wall!". We rely on the Internet for a lot of communication ways. Such as the news, blogs, IM's, and Facebook/Myspace. I'm pretty much a Facebook addict, as a lot of college students are. It would be hard for me not to check Facebook at least twice a week to see what people are saying/giving me. Sometimes I think I would be better off without the computer, but then I realize how much I rely on Google and yahoo to find research items for papers in classes. Without the Internet, for some people it would be really hard to find research for a paper.

My life without television wouldn't be that difficult. Although a lot of my favorite shows and entertainment are on there, it wouldn't be hard to give up, it's just a show on t.v. and usually they're just fictional. Even the "reality"shows these days are scripted. The only reason why a lot of people watch t.v. is because of the news, to keep up with everyday things. Without television, people would have to rely on the newspaper to keep them up with what's going on in the community and the world now-a-days. I never read the newspaper unless it's an article on something that interests me or someone I know. Without t.v. and computers, I would probably read books and the newspaper a lot for entertainment. I would still go out with my family and friends like I do now. Even "hanging out" now revolves around watching your favorite show with a bunch of your friends who like the show, too. Our lives revolve around the media, for some people I don't think they would have much of a life and a lot of jobs wouldn't be existing right now.

Thanksgiving Break

I'm really excited to go home this week for Thanksgiving break. I think it's really nice of my professors to cancel class on Wednesday so we can go home early for break. The only class that I haven't heard had been canceled yet is my Acting class at 9 in the morning, but even if it isn't canceled I'll just leave right after that and get home pretty early around 10. I'm only a half hour away from Mankato, I live in New Ulm so it's really not a long drive for me at all. I'm excited for Wednesday because I also have a job interview for Maurice's in New Ulm, I absolutely LOVE that store! I also work at Applebee's in New Ulm, but in the winter when the weather is horrible to drive in, I'm not going to want to drive home all the time just to work on the weekends. So if I end up getting the job at Maurice's in New Ulm, then I can just transfer over to the Maurice's in the River Hills mall and just work there during the winter so I don't have to drive home in the weather, good plan huh? Anyways, back to Thanksgiving. My family traditions for Thanksgiving are, on Thanksgiving day my family will have an early lunch at my aunts house for my mom's extended family and then will leave early and travel over to Dassel, Minnesota to have lupper (lunch/supper) with my Dad's side of the family. All of the grandkids on my Dad's side have almost the same birthday. There are 3 in September and 2 in November and 1 in December so we celebrate those birthday's when we all get together on Thanksgiving. After that we'll head back that night and then go over to my grandma's house in New Ulm and celebrate Thanksgiving with a late supper with my Mom's side of the family. Oh my goodness I'm so excited to have real food instead of nasty non-variety cafeteria food!!!!!

Acting Class Scene

For my "Acting for Everyone" class this semester, it's required to do a lot of acting in front of the class. We have to present 2 monologues and a scene. The monologues are obviously done by yourself, and you have a partner that you present your scene with. My first monologue went really well, and my scene partner and I just presented our scene last Friday. Well, my scene partner, Josh, and I have the exact same personality so it was easy for us to pick out a scene that we both liked. We looked at a bunch of scenes but it was hard to find the right one. The one we eventually picked out is called, "The DMV One." I have to tell you, the scene is absolutely hilarious, but extremely awkward to present in front of the class. In the scene, I'm a woman working at the DMV and Josh is a man coming into renew his licence and registration after moving here from out of state. Well I get in to asking him the most random questions like, "Single?", "Boxers or Briefs?", "We exchange numbers or you ask me out right now?", those kind of questions. Then it goes into "Slow or fast?", "Top or bottom?", and it gets so awkward to yell these questions back and fourth in front of the class, but we did a really good job. Usually our professor will come up and critique us after you're done performing, but she just said we did a really good job and we were the "perfect people to present this scene" and we had a really good understanding about the relationship with the two characters in the scene. SO I was pretty happy with how that turned out! Next, our last monologue, which will be pretty easy so I'm not worried.

Weather Folklores

The blog topic today is 'weather folklore', I typed in the topic on Google.com and this is what I came up with. I actually found two that I wanted to blog about.

1. Birds on a telephone wire indicate the coming of rain.
This makes sense, but I've never seen it before. The only time I've ever seen birds on a telephone wire is during the summer, when it's hot out. You think that the birds can sense when it's going to rain and GET OFF the wire, because they would probably be electrocuted. I believe that animals can have a sense for the weather, like my mom always says "Look, the cows are lying down, that means it's going to rain." I always just nod and say yeah OK, but I think that's crap. Animals can probably sense it, but I think the cows are probably just tired and want to lay down, damnit!

2. If autumn leaves are slow to fall, prepare for a long, cold winter...
Why does it matter when the leaves fall? It could just be windy or not windy at all and the leaves just don't fall. How can you tell how long or cold a season is going to be by how fast leaves can fall? I just think that's nonsense.

College - extra credit

We were asked the question, "Why are you in college?". I am enrolled in Minnesota State University- Mankato because I want to get the education I deserve. My family and the community I live in brought me up with the belief that, you go to elementary school, grade school, high school and then you're off to college. The high school I went to was a Luthern high school and had a slogin that said, "We're preparing you in a Christ-centered education to go out to preach the Word of God to whatever college you attend after high school." So my high school was all about preparing every student for college and the life to come. I've always been brought up that after you graduate high school, you're off to college. Since I was 5 years old I've wanted to come to MSU. My parents both graduated from MSU and they actually met on the MSU Bowling Team, they both worked in the bowling alley. My parents have always told me how much they loved MSU, so I began to love it just as much as they did. Not to mention purple is my favorite color so I of course had to go here! I believe that while I'm attending MSU, I am getting the education to better prepare me for the career I choose.

My favorite clothes.

My favorite store is American Eagle. I love the clothes because they're both cute and casual. A lot of the clothes have a beachy California feel. The theme of the clothes usually focuses around what season it is, so it's really never out of style at all. AE also sells jewelry, it's really cute and it never turns your finger green or anything like that. American Eagle also sells amazing perfume and it's always the perfect scent. Fresh and never too strong. I'm pretty much in love with American Eagle. Maurices is also my other favorite store. They have a plus-size section now which I LOVE. The clothes there always fit me perfectly and fits me the way I want them to fit, just right! The clothes are always in style and very cute. They're more business, cute casual type of clothes. You'll probably always see me wearing a pair of jeans and a cute t-shirt or a long-sleeved shirt. I also love the store Kohl's, it's cheap yet cute...perfect combination. Kohl's always has some good sales going on for their clothes which I love. My roommate works at Kohl's so she gives me friend coupons so I get even more of a discount on the clothes, gotta love it. Kohl's also has shoes, bed wear/kitchenware, cologne/perfume, jewelry...it has a lot of stuff for really low prices. The one store I can't stand is Gordman's, the store has some cute stuff but it's so scattered around and chaotic it's just hard to walk around and try to find something I'm looking for.

My weekend.

I loved having the extra day to relax. My last class was this one on Thursday so I left shortly after class got out. Thursday I just relaxed at home with my family and watched my brother at bowling practice, I started to feel really sick at the bowling alley so I went home. That night I was really cold and really hot at the same time. I wanted 15 blankets on top of me then a fan going at the same time...I knew something wasn't right. I had the same thing 3 weeks ago where I was cold and hot at the same time and I ended up having at 104 temperature that weekend. I didn't want to go through that again. But early morning on Friday around 1 a.m. I started vomiting. I basically had the flu all weekend. I had to work Saturday night and by then I was fine but I still had a really bad sore/scratchy throat and my eyes were bloody and yellow from throwing up so much and breaking blood vessels. Sunday morning I worked and I still had the bad sore throat and my eyes were still yellow and bloody. I'm feeling a lot better now, except that I still have the sore throat and my eyes haven't gone away yet...maybe I should get that checked. Good weekend huh?

Book Prices and Student Fees

I really didn't have a problem with my book prices at all, compared to what I've heard from everyone else, mine was a pretty reasonable price. I only had to pay $320 for my books this sememster. It's amazing how one little book can be $70...I don't get it. How can one book cost $200?? I've heard a lot of people had to pay over $500 for their books and they only got four of them! I didn't mind paying only that amount of money for my books, but when the student fees that I pay are more expensive then my books, that's just hard to believe and really stupid. I think student fee's are pointless and just a waste of money. I think it's stupid that we have to pay for things we don't even use at all. For example, I don't know why I'm paying for the Student Union fee when I hardly even go in the CSU. I understand some of these fees, the University needs help paying for things too, but I don't understand why they have to take a lot of our money away to pay for them. It's stupid to make people pay $400 for student fees when some of them transfer after a semester anyways. Student fee's are just stupid.

Big Brother.

I used to be addicted to the t.v. show "Big Brother." The more I watched, the more I would hate to be on the show. They're basically living in a fish tank...anybody can watch them and they are being watched all the time. I would really hate that. When the show isn't on, you can log on to ABC.com and click on the show Big Brother and you can actually watch them online what they're doing at that given moment of the day. I would get so sick of people watching me, knowing I couldn't do anything embarrassing or say the wrong thing because it would be all over the internet and people talking about it all the time. I can't imagine what would make people want to be watched like that all the time in that house, and living with that many people, that would suck. I know it's a lot of money, but to sell yourself short like that where you're being watched all the time and can't be yourself is just pretty low.

Technology Pros & Cons

I love technology. Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass to get working, it makes a lot of everyday tasks go a lot faster. Take the computer for example, you can get on the Internet and find research for a paper or try to find that song that you've had in your head all day, and it will take about 10 minutes. Then of course, it will freeze on you if you do a lot of things on it at once.

I was driving back to campus with my mom yesterday (I live in New Ulm, 30 minutes away), and we were about 10 minutes into my drive when I realized I ...of course...left my cellphone at my house. I got so upset! My cellphone is basically my life...I have all my numbers in there and that night I had a lot of groups to meet with and of course they would all have to contact me by calling or texting me...yeah well they couldn't because I left my phone at home. It shocked me how much I rely on my cellphone. I can't believe I got that upset over something like that, but it sucked not having my cellphone with me. I was so relieved when I got it back and I had over 20 missed calls. Of course, before I left my house, I made sure I had socks along but NOPE can't double check that I have my cellphone with me or not! Of course.

So a lot of parts of technology are good, because it makes things go a lot faster; but it's never going to be perfect. Ever.

Gorgeous!

Fall is my favorite time of the year. The trees around campus are absolutely beautiful and the weather outside today is perfect! I love when trees turn that really pretty maroonish red/dark pink. Watching the trees change color and the leaves on the ground is so much fun. I love the fall weather because you can wear jeans and a sweatshirt and be just fine, it's not too hot. But when the weather is 90 degrees or higher, it's really hot to cool off; which is why I like the cooler weather better. You can always do something about being cold, like bundle up in your pajamas and your sweats, throw on a couple blankets, make some hot chocolate and sit by the fire and watch a movie. That would be my perfect winter night...now that's what I'm doing during Christmas break! But when it's 90 outside it sucks because you're of course going to be disgustingly uncomfortably HOT and there's not a lot you can do about being really hot. Just put skimpy clothes on and put your hair up and wear flip flops..basically all you can do. You can't run around naked...well I guess you could, there would just be a lot of consequences. So with that...GO FALL!

The Documentary - Michael Moore Hates America.

Even before seeing this film, I couldn't stand Michael Moore. The way he talks about America is just plain rude. If he doesn't like America or what America is doing then he should just leave! I love America, I love the freedoms we have to express whatever we want to, I don't understand why he puts down America so much. I understand that everyone has their own opinion, but when you're offending so many people by the things you say then you should keep your opinions to yourself, or analyze just exactly what you're saying. If he puts America down so much then obviously he shouldn't be here. A lot of people are upset about the things he is saying about America, and all of them are basically bullshit. He shouldn't force his opinions on people. To me he comes off as the kind of person who if you don't believe or follow what he is saying, then you're just stupid. Frankly I just don't like Michael Moore or approve at all of what he's saying about America.

Michael Moore Hates America - Editing

I think the way Mike edited this film was alright. Sometimes I wonder if he edited the film just to show how bad Michael Moore him and how he views him. He only really has people talking bad about Michael Moore or his followers liking what he says but then talks about how Moore should have treated him different in the interview when Mike asked that quesiton. He showed the clips of the followers of Moore saying that of course they like what Moore has to say, but then said that during the interview Moore should have addressed Mike's question, so in his little own way he still portrays Moore in a bad way. He didn't show anybody really liking what Moore had to say or defending him, and didn't have anyone saying they liked him and then sticking too it and not saying anything bad about Michael Moore and what he should be doing different.

Repremations are BS!

I loved that Penn & Teller video about Reparation. Nobody really confronts racism anymore, well they do, they just don't share their opinions much anymore. I am by no means racist what so ever, I am probably the least racist person I've ever met. For me, I am the type of person who won't say anything offensive around a different race. I get hesitant about saying the word black around black people, that's how non-racist I am. I'll usually say colored people or African Americans around ...blacks... Which I don't even know why I get that because they don't even hold back to say white people to us. In my Ethnic Studies class yesterday, we talked about different racist terms toward different ethnic groups. A lot of the terms I haven't even heard of, there were a couple terms that I have heard of but I have never and will never say them to anyone or about anyone. I would feel terrible saying those words, the only thing different about me and other races and ethnic groups are that are eyes are sometimes the same shapes, are languages could be different and have different accents and of course the skin color is usually different. I think everyone should be treated the same. As you can see, I'm not racist at all and I definitely support the video about Reparations, they are bullshit.

Debates

Yesterday we had a Critical Thinking paper due for my First Year Experience class. I wrote my paper on Abortion, and so did four other girls in the class. We could pick any controversial issue topic we wanted. There were topics such as legalizing marijuana, the war, the drinking age, anorexia, the smoking ban, cell life, health care, obesity and so on. We had to go around in a circle and tell everyone what topic we were doing and just tell what our paper was about the the opinions we had on it. After everyone told about their topic, we had the chance to debate someone on it. There was a girl and a guy who just went at it and debated everything the other person had to say, it was awesome to watch. I love watching people debate each other and hear other people's opinions about a specific topic. I am a very opinionated person but I'm the kind of person who won't debate or fight anyone about a topic because I don't want to offend anybody. I'm really hesitant towards what to say to someone with different beliefs to something, I don't want them to get mad or think bad of me. I think it's cool when people aren't afraid to express themselves and their beliefs, they just tell it like it is. But I get really annoyed with the people who think that whatever they believe in is right and if you don't think that then you're just stupid.

Hating Days of the Week.

I actually hate two days of the week. First I hate Mondays...I have four classes on Monday. Although, I have class from 9-9:50, 10-10:50, 2-2:50 and 4-4:50 so I do have a good break in between classes and then my friend Apryl and I hang out between classes because we have the same break! So I hate Monday's because I have a lot of classes, but I love hanging out with Apryl, too. It makes the day a lot better!
I also hate Sunday's, the day before Monday's....a whooolleee new week of classes starts over. Nothing really happens on Sunday's. Sunday's for me are just boring because you know the next day is a Monday and it sucks.

My professor's story this morning.

Today is Columbus Day and in my Ethnic Studies class, my professor decided to tell us a story about his old job back when he lived in Oklahoma while he was going to college. He was a telemarketer for Sears Venal Package...no idea what that is, but I think it's something to do with a house. ANYways, he was telling us about this friend, Shawn, that worked with him. He always came to work stoned and was always stoned when he called the clients. In between calls, he would talk to my professor. One day, he came to work REALLY stoned and had the stoner voice. To give you a little more insight, my professor is Indian and is very proud of that, I think it's really cool and it adds a little more something to the Ethnic Studies class that our professor has a background of Indian. So his friend, Shawn, says to him "Heeeyyy dude, you're Indian right?" My professor answers yes, and tells what tribe he's from. Shawn then says "Yeah, so this day (Columbus Day) has to be pretty hard for you being Indian and all. I think they should call it 'Stolen Land Day'." Ha ha I just thought that was so funny hearing a stoner talk about Columbus Day. What a great way to start out a class.

Acting Class This Morning (8th)

For my acting class we have to perform a two minute monologue in front of the whole class. You can pick the monologue you decide to perform. I chose a monologue from a play called 'Scuba Lessons' my character is Kelly and she is a CEO for a company. She and her friend Dan are set up by a mutual friend, Raul (he's gay). They meet their dates at the same place. She is a very energetic character with a bubbly personality, just like me. It was really easy to relate to this character and present this monologue the way she would. All of the sentences and the full monologue came so natural for me, I knew exactly how to act it out. My professor for this class usually critiques your acting after you present the monologue the first time, then you present it again for a final grade. The first time I presented my monologue she loved it and didn't even have me change anything about it. I present it my second time for a final grade on Friday. Anyways, all of the other monologues have been really good, but this morning a guy named B.J. gave a monologue from the movie 'Boiler Room'. It was amazing! His character was a big C.E.O for a stockbroking company and he played it sooo well. He was really intimidating and he played the part just soo well. He changed his monologue last night and memorized a whole new one in 3 hours. I was so impressed by the memorization, it was about 3 minutes long and he memorized the whole thing, including actions, all in one night!

Changing an illness.

If I could change one illness, I would change the chicken pox. It wouldn't be contagious, but you would have to have at least one case of the chicken pox when you were young so it gets out of your system. I would have a lot of medications you could take to get rid of it smoothly and fast. Also, if you took the medication, it would limit the amount of the pox (bumps) you would actually get, and the size they are! So if you took the medication, you could make the pox bigger and only get 10 of them. Or make them smaller and have a bunch of pox. You would only get it for 3 days. To get people to stop itching, if you scratched the bump, it would just give you two more. So for every pox you scratch and break open, you get two more pox.

What is age to me?

To me, age is just a number. Just subtract the year it is now from the year you were born, and that's how old you are. I'm 18. Everybody gets so excited when when turn 18...I don't know why. I mean, yeah, you're an adult now...but sometimes that's not always a good thing. I couldn't wait to be treated like an adult when I was younger. Now, everything I say can be used against me and is always analyzed. When you're 18, you get to gamble, buy cigarettes, buy porn, and you're tried as an adult when you're in court. None of that to me seems fun. Of course, I went out to Jackpot for my 18th birthday and it was fun for a little while, because I wasn't gambling off my own money ha ha. I just think it's easy to get addicted to it as it is to get addicted to all of those things - smoking, gambling, porn, violence. It's o.k. being an adult, but it's not the greatest. There are a lot more responsibilities, and people expect a lot more from you now. I don't think anything fun really happens as you get older. I remember being excited to get my license and my own car when I was 16, but I got in a huge accident right after I got my license and now it's on my record for another year. It sucks having all of these responsibilities, that's why I don't think fun to get older and have more responsibilities. Right now that I'm 18, nothing is really going to happen until I get to be 21...then of course I can drink. But then it's o.k. in people's eyes to get drunk, then you have the drunk driving thing to watch out for and even if you have too much to drink and you're over the limit...then you have something else to watch out for. I don't think a lot of the things that come with getting older are important, some of them just plain suck.

Movies.

My favorite movie is Save the Last Dance. I love movies that revolve around dancing, such as Step Up, Dirty Dancing, Dirty Dancing Havana Nights, Grease, Shall We Dance?, Center State and Take the Lead and so on. Those movies are so much fun to watch for me because I love to dance. I used to be on the Dance Team in high school and I took dance lessons all throughout grade school. My dad used to tell me that if there was dancing on the t.v., you could wave a 10 lb chocolate bar in front of my face and I wouldn't even look away from the t.v. I'm also IN LOVE with Ashton Kutcher, so any movie that he acts in are also my favorites. Just Married is a good one, also Dude Where's My Car?. Classics. Another good movie is the Notebook. Every girl has to love that movie...it's so good! Ryan Gossling is such an amazing actor that you just fall in love with him in the movie. I think if you fall in love with the characters and get real into the story line, you'll love the movie. It makes it so much more real when you can relate to the characters.

Dreams

My dreams are always really interesting. Usually I have dreams, or parts in dreams, that actually happen in real life. I can have a conversation in a dream with someone, then after that dream sometime I'll have that same conversation or a part of that conversation in real life. It's really creepy. Then I'll get this weird look on my face like I know this conversation from somewhere and then I get all weirded out, it's messed up. Then, the last thing I think about before I go to bed is usually what I dream about. I was thinking about my boyfriend Josh coming home this weekend and going to the Homecoming football game for his high school back home, and I had a dream that he and I were at the football game together this weekend. It's really weird, when I tell people they think I'm always making it up. Then I tell someone else and they say it happens to them too. I think I'm just special and have awesome premonitions...I could be with the FBI ha ha.

Thank you for not smoking.

This blog is about how I feel about people smoking. I think smoking is a bad habbit. Usually the people I talk to about it say they wish they could quit, and it's a bad habbit. I know it's hard to quit, but if you want to...then why don't you?? Obviously it's not that hard if you're not even trying to quit. I'm glad that the smoke free law is happening now. Mankato is all smoke free and my hometown, New Ulm, is smoke free on October 1st. I can't wait! I am a hostess at Applebee's in New Ulm and I am so sick of coming home after work smelling like an ash tray! I have nothing against smokers, it's their choice to smoke. I just think smoking is discusting and a bad habbit to get into. People think it makes them look cool, well it doesn't. To a lot of people it's a huge turn-off, and I think it is too. When you smoke, you're not only slowly killing yourself but the other's around you. When I'm working, I'm breathing in that 2nd hand smoke, it sucks!! I think the smokers should crack down and actually realize what they're doing to themselves and the people around them when they smoke. Smoke is not a good perfume to have, you smell bad, your teeth look discusting and you're killing yourself. I think people should just all quit!

Monster

I looked up the word "monster" at http://www.dictionary.com/ and these are the results I got.

1.
a legendary animal combining features of animal and human form or having the forms of various animals in combination, as a centaur, griffin, or sphinx.
2.
any creature so ugly or monstrous as to frighten people.
3.
any animal or human grotesquely deviating from the normal shape, behavior, or character.
4.
a person who excites horror by wickedness, cruelty, etc.
5.
any animal or thing huge in size.
6.
Biology.
a.
an animal or plant of abnormal form or structure, as from marked malformation or the absence of certain parts or organs.
b.
a grossly anomalous fetus or infant, esp. one that is not viable.
7.
anything unnatural or monstrous. –adjective
8.
huge; enormous; monstrous: a monster tree.

I think that all these definitions are ok. I believe that a monster is just a bad person or creature who thinks it's ok to be mean or scary to someone. Sometimes monsters can be portrayed as scary or as just a furry little funny creature. Like in Monsters, Inc. the disney movie they started out making the monsters scare the little kids, then make them laugh. I think it's all just just what you think they are and what they do in your mind. I think monsters are scary looking creatures or mean people that sccare and are mean to people.

Negotiations.

I feel that the negotiations for this class were perfect. I don't see why it's hard to not go on Facebook or Myspace during class time. If anybody in the class can't possibly wait 50 minutes to go on Facebook while they are in class then they have a problem and they're super addicted to the Internet! It's rude to go on Facebook and Myspace and listen your iPod in class when someone is talking and you're in class. I'm pretty sure they didn't allow anyone to do that wherever we went to high school and I don't see why people think it's OK to do whatever they want in college. The professors and TA's should be respected in their class just as we had to respect our teachers in high school. I'm pretty sure anyone in the class can refrain from Facebook and Myspace for all of class. I'm almost 100% sure that we all check Facebook or Myspace 20 times a day, and nothing that exciting is going to happen in 50 minutes, we can check it later!

The class participation rule is a good rule I think. We should lose points if we're not paying attention to what people are saying during discussions and class. The weekly tests are good too, then you know that we're paying attention in class and doing the homework that's needed in class. I think if we do our best, that our final drafts should be good, especially if we're doing the homework so it shouldn't matter if we get credit or not for our rough drafts.

Overall I think the negotiations are necessary and should be respected by all of the students in the class.

College life.

College for me so far has been awesome! The first week was a huge transition for me but I got over it just fine. Coming from a high school with a student body of 300 to a school with a student body of over 15,000 is a HUGE adjustment for me. I walked to my first class at 9 in the morning and saw 5,000 people all over the place walking with me, it was so scary! However, I have gotten very used to it and I love that I'm always surrounded by so many people all the time. It makes me feel a lot more comfortable, like I'm not in this by myself.

I've made so many friends on my floor and in my classes too, which I'm so thankful for. I'm the kind of person that can never be by myself. I always have to be doing something or with somebody or making plans to do something. But I know there will come a day where I will love being by myself in the dorm room for a couple hours or have the room to myself for the weekend.

So far I love my classes and my teachers and the campus!

Credible or not?? -Websites

www.improb.com/archives/classical/cat/cat.html

The website above is called. "Feline Reactions to Bearded Men."
I don't think this website is credible. I really don't think cats can have specific reactions to men with beards different from men who don't have beards. They may have different reactions to different people because of the way they walk or the way they're acting, but I don't think it's necessarily about if they have facial hair or not.

http://city-mankato.us

This website is about the city of Mankato, MN. This website is DEFINITELY not credible. First it starts off with a picture of a gorgeous beach...definitely not in Minnesota. Then it goes on by saying that Mankato has a pyramid, underwater city, hot springs, hot falls and so much more. Mankato has nothing of the sort. It has a mall, a university, a bunch of houses, some shops...and that's about all. Haven't seen a pyramid around Mankato in a while. This person needs to get this website off of the Internet. My TA for English said that this website actually got people to come up here to see the pyramids and the underwater city, that's just sad. They need to get their information and their sources right. Maybe they're talking about Mankato...in Jamaica? Don't think so.

News Article - Snack Cake Killing

I was on cnn.com this morning to look for a news article and came across a funny title "Girl, 9, Threatens To Kill Classmate Over Zebra Cakes". So I read into it and read that these two girls were going to trade their snacks during an after school program...one was going to trade her potato chips for the other girls' zebra cakes. One of the girls wanted the potato chips and the snack cakes all to herself, and when the other girl wouldn't let that happen, she wrote her a letter. The letter was about how she was going to kill her and what guns she was going to use and even how the other girl was going to fight back and what guns she was going to use because the other girl wouldn't give her the potato chips. This was all in a note, and the mother of the girl who the note was being sent to didn't even get a copy of this note, she just got to read it.

As a terrified mother, she was left in the dark during this whole thing. She doesn't even know if the little girl is going to be suspended or punished for writing this horrible note to her daughter. You would think that this girl would be expelled or suspended for...a long time because of this note. A 9 year old little girl was writing about how she was going to kill another person and what gun she was going to use all because she couldn't get a bag of potato chips!!! A 9 year old!! Nobody should be writing these things to anybody let alone a little 9 year old girl. How does she get this information about these guns anyways?! I think this little girl should be expelled from the school and get counseling immediately.

Bullshit.

So this blog is about this new t.v. series that I was recently introduced to in my English Comp. class called Bullshit! I absolutely love the show now. The two hosts of the show have the funniest personalities and are very opinionated, but in a good way. They like that everyone has their own opinion and they don't discriminate against them at all.
One of the shows we watched in class was about recycling and how it is actually bad for the enviornment. People feel good when they recycle, but it's actually not good to recycle. It costs more to recycle your garbage then it does to just throw it away and not reuse it at all. They really make you open up your mind and see things a different way. The other one was about Wal-Mart and how everybody hates Wal-Mart. Everyone that hates it says that they treat their employees badly and they don't pay them the money they deserve. There are people actually making "I hate Wal-Mart" t-shirts! I was so shocked when I saw this about how many people seriously hate Wal-Mart! I honestly don't see what's bad, you get good quality items at a low price...I'm a poor college student so Wal-Mart is the place to go! They just let everyone has their opinions, and whether they agree with your opinion or not, they don't say anything about it. They let you have your own opinion, even though they have their own opinion, they don't sway anybody towards it.
I encourage everyone to watch at least one of the episodes, it really broadens your enviornment and the way you think. The show will definitly benefit you in some way.
